Around 200 km up the A2 through Thika, Karatina and Naro Moru. It is a good road and a straightforward run, and we allow three to five working days door to door. Many Laikipia properties have a rougher final stretch off the main road, so we ask about the last kilometre before the day — that stretch, not the highway, is where an unprepared piano gets shaken about. A settling tuning follows two to three weeks after delivery.

Nanyuki sits at roughly 1,950 m almost exactly on the equator, and the gap between afternoon warmth and night-time cold is wide. A piano is a wooden structure under about twenty tonnes of string tension, and it responds to that daily cycle by expanding and contracting more than it would in a steadier climate. Combined with genuinely dry air, that means tuning drift shows up sooner here than in Nairobi. Practical answers are simple and they work: keep the instrument off an exterior wall, away from a fireplace and out of direct sun, and consider a humidity control system if the house is heated in the evenings. We will tell you at the point of sale whether a particular piano needs one.
