The coast is the hardest place in Kenya to keep a piano healthy, and that shapes what we will and will not recommend you buy — a piano that is a sensible purchase in Nairobi is not automatically a sensible purchase in Nyali. We would rather tell you that before you spend the money.

Aftercare tuning and servicing
It is roughly 485 km down the A109 through Mtito Andei and Voi. A piano makes that trip wrapped and braced in a closed vehicle, never on an open lorry — heat, dust and road vibration over that distance are what turn a well-regulated action into a rattling one. We allow four to seven working days door to door, and the price we quote you includes the return trip and the technician's time. A long-distance move always knocks a piano out of tune, so a settling tuning is scheduled after it has had two to three weeks in its new room.

Mombasa runs at high relative humidity most of the year, and salt air comes with it. In a piano that means swollen hammer felts and a woolly, dull tone; sluggish or sticking key action as the wooden parts take up moisture; and, over years, corrosion on strings and tuning pins. None of this is a reason not to own a piano at the coast — plenty of our coastal customers have had theirs for decades. It is a reason to plan for it. We advise coastal buyers on room placement away from sea-facing windows, on running a dehumidifier or an in-piano climate system, and on a tuning and servicing rhythm that is closer to three visits a year than two.
